How to play Teen Patti: rules for beginners

Know the law
Teen Patti played online for money is banned across India since 1 May 2026 under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. This guide teaches the game, not money play.
Setup: players, cards, boot
- Players: 3–7 around one table (or app table), one standard 52-card deck, no jokers in classic rules.
- Boot: every player contributes an equal ante to the pot before any card is dealt. The boot seeds every hand.
- Deal: 3 cards face-down to each player. Look at yours or don't — that choice defines your betting lane.

A betting round, step by step
- Action starts left of the dealer and moves clockwise. On your turn: match the current stake, raise it (within table limits), or pack (fold).
- Stakes escalate by lane. Blind players bet the small unit; seen players bet double. Raises compound — pots grow fast.
- Request sideshows. A seen player may ask the previous seen player for a sideshow: compare privately, weaker hand packs. The request can be refused.
- Last two standing. When all but two have packed, either survivor may pay for a show — both hands revealed, higher hand rank takes the pot.
- Win by default. If everyone else packs, the last player takes the pot without showing — bluffing is legal and central.
Beginner strategy that actually matters
- Start blind for a round or two. Cheap stakes buy information about who bets confidently.
- Pack weak seen hands early. Chasing with high-card-no-draw hands is how beginners bleed chips.
- Count the pot, not your hope. If the pot is small and the stake keeps doubling, most medium hands are folds.
- Watch betting patterns, not faces. Online and at home alike, timing and sizing tell more than expressions.
